Tonight's beer: Great Divide Hibernation Ale
Toasty-roasty—dark bread, caramel, chocolate—with grass and earth lurking a bit behind. Impressions of huts, toffee, dark dried/candied fruits (figs, plums) woven into the background. Hints of smoke in the interstices.
A bit thicker than medium-bodied, dense but kinda soft; nicely carbonated. Bready-chewy and syrupy-sticky. Eventually, softly drying; filling and satisfying and gently warming.
Yum! A bit smokier than I remember; there may be smoked malts I don't know about coming forward a bit. That's not a complaint: I *like* smoky beers. Lots of intense and complex flavor, tipped a bit toward malt and sweet but it's well-poised and holds together nicely. Clearly not damaged (maybe even helped) by almost a year in the bottle. An excellent beer from a brewer I trust and respect lots.
