Tonight's beer: Port Brewing Shark Attack

Port Brewing Shark Attack

Lots of fruit around the start: citrussy bitterness and apple/pear-ish sweetness tightly-braided, with hints of musky-melony tropical fruit around the perimeter. Flowers and spice and grass in the background; hints of bread and caramel and maybe toast. Occasional impressions of something darker—toffee or nuts or maybe chocolate. Bittersweet throughout, finishes very dry.

Medium-bodied-ish, decently carbonated. A bit of bready chewiness around the middle, some resinous-syrupy stickiness more toward the finish. Scrubbing—almost scouring—and drying and refreshing. Not much (or really any) hint of the 9% ABV.

Yum! I have a weakness (I don't make much of a secret of it) for American Amber/Red Ales, especially the bitter ones, because I thing the're better balanced than IPAs and Double IPAs, and do a better job of featuring the hop flavors and aromas. This beer goes a fair way toward proving my point. Intense as heck, and impressively intense; finely balanced and nicely integrated; drinkable as hell and entirely delicious. I might have to see about getting more of this, if I can finagle it.
