Tonight's beer: Sweetwater 17
Grassy-floral bitterness up front, with funk and musk woven in and flecks of pine and citrus around the edges. Pale-bready sweetness in the background, with hints of caramel and toast. Bright spice (like coriander, mainly) and pale fruits (white grapes, pears, apples) in the distance, moving forward toward the finish. Starts bitter, finishes very dry.
Very light-bodied, decently-carbonated. Cleansing, drying, very refreshing. Absolutely no hint of the 9% ABV. Mostly clean.
This is a *really nice* bretty saison—one of my personal favorite styles. Tons of flavor, here; intense as hell and impressively complex, nicely integrated and well-balanced. Amazingly drinkable. The funk is there, but controlled and contained. Very impressive.
