Tonight's beer: Tröegs Mad Elf
Cherries and honey to start, but mostly dry: the sweetness seems almost transitory. Some dark bread and possibilities of toast and caramel, threads of other dark fruits (plums, red grapes) and dark spice (mainly cloves) and grassy-floral bitterness around the finish. Slides some toward tart, then dries out a good bit. Dim hints of rum and brandy, off in the distance.
Light-bodied, highly (if finely) carbonated. A little sticky, but mostly clean, cleansing, drying, refreshing. Gently puckering. Basically no warning of the 11% ABV.
Devastatingly drinkable, and utterly delicious. A perfect Xmas beer to drink in early June. Intense and complex for days, nicely integrated and balanced. Still very forward with the cherries (and to a lesser extent the honey) but there a lot of other things going on, here.
