Unibroue Maudite

Tonight's beer: Unibroue Maudite

Unibroue Maudite

Caramel and dark fruit (plums, cherries, grapes) backed by bright baking spice (mainly coriander). More toasty into the middle. Earth, flowers, grass in the background. Hints of smoke and leather around the fringes. Starts gently sweet, finishes briskly dry.

Pretty light-bodied, well-carbonated. A little bready stickiness around the end, but mostly clean, cleansing, drying, and very refreshing. No warning of the pretty substantial alcohol payload (8% ABV).

A delicious beer, a little on the light-colored side for the style but otherwise, I think, pretty spot-on (if clearly sporting Unibroue's house character). Intense and complex, nicely balanced and integrated; massively drinkable. There are some people who don't like Unibroue's beers; I'm definitely not one of them.
