Tonight's beer: Great Divide 20th Anniversary
Opens with momentary bright fruity bittersweetness: pears and apples and white grapes, backed by mostly grapefruity-orangey citrus; pure pale-bready sweetness emerges momentarily. Transitions rapidly to surprisingly dry, with floral-grassy-spicy bitterness around the edges. Hints of almost-vinous tartness.
Light-bodied, with carbonation a bit on the sparse side but adequate. A little sticky, a little chewy. Impressively drying and refreshing, with the 8.2% ABV well-hidden.
An intesting and entirely pleasant take on a Belgian Strong Pale Ale, with the white grape juice blending in nicely, adding some pleasant almost-vinous character. Intense and complex, surprisingly drinkable and nicely balanced and integrated. A delicious way for one of the first craft brewers I stumbled upon to celebrate a big anniversary.
