Tonight's beer: Lagunitas Night Time
Lots of bitterness: pine and citrus and musk, flecks of flowers and grass; densely woven into chocolate and coffee. Toast in the background, with hints of caramel and dark bread. Dim and distant impressions of molasses and dark dried/candied fruit. Densely bittersweet from start to finish.
A little on the thick and soft side of medium-bodied, well carbonated. A bit sticky, gradually drying, eventually massively refreshing; pretty substantial booze—8.2% ABV—impressively subdued. Supple and graceful.
Yum! This is a pretty spot-on Black IPA, laden with Lagunitas' house character (probably some yeast and some hops selection, I guess). Intense and complex and poised (if not exactly balanced) and astonishingly drinkable. Another impressive hops-centered beer from Lagunitas.
