Moa St Josephs

Tonight's beer: Moa St Josephs

Moa St Josephs

Tart pale fruits—pears, apples, white grapes—backed by pale bread and bright wine tending toward vinegar. Hints of caramel and toast, grass and flowers and herbs. Earthy-musky presence emerges toward the finish, with flickers of wet paper/cardboard.

Thin and watery and utterly still, with a strong boozy presence. Oddly sticky for such a thin beer. Leaning heavily toward puckering.

So, when a beer that calls itself a tripel makes almost no noise when opened, it's probably not a good sign. I don't know where the badness happened to this beer, whether the problems were in production or packaging or if the beer was mishandled somewhere between New Zealand and here, but at this point this is not a good beer at all. That's a bummer, because Moa's beers are expensive around here, and because we've enjoyed other beers from them a lot. Oh, well.
