Tonight's beer: Sound Monks' Indiscretion
Starts with pale fruits—pears, apples, bananas, peaches—butted against musky-tropical-fruity bitterness. Grass and flowers and possibilities of pine lurking. Pale bread, with hints of caramel and bright baking spices, in the background. Skitters along a fine bittersweet line from start to finish.
Medium-bodied, finely carbonated, a bit sticky. Not a lot of warning about the 10% ABV the beer is carrying. Mostly smooth, eventually drying, almost cleaning, surprisingly refreshing.
A marvelous beer, almost alarmingly drinkable. Astonishingly complex, intense, balanced; entirely integrated, even with all the beer has going on. From the label, one might guess this to be a Belgian-style IPA, but there's a bit too much sweet (and, really, not enough hops) for that; but this is a delicious beer.
