Tonight's beer: Blue Mountain (Barrel House) Blue Reserve Hommelbier
Sharp floral-grassy bitterness to open, with lime and grapefruit and maybe pine lurking in the background. Bread and toast and threads of caramel in mostly a supporting role. Candied pale fruits—mainly pears and apples—and baking spices flicker on the periphery. Finishes quickly and thoroughly dry.
Light-bodied and finely-carbonated, with some resinous and syrupy stickiness hanging around into a drying and very refreshing finish; cleansing bordering on scrubbing. Graceful and supple and remarkably smooth.
A delicious Belgian-style IPA, massively drinkable. Definitely tastes like a Blue Mountain beer—they have a distinct but pleasant house character—but also nice Belgian yeast notes. Intense and complex, nicely balanced, surprisingly subtle on closer attention. Another superb beer from Blue Mountain. Yum!
