Tonight's beer: Flying Dog The Truth
Opens blisteringly bitter: grapefruit (and other citrus) threaded with musk and flowers, flickers of pine and grass. Bready-caramel sweetness arises momentarily, is subsumed by the bitter as the beer dries out rapidly. Long musky-bitter-dry finish.
Maybe a little thicker than medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Lots of resinous stickiness, some chewiness. Cleansing—scouring, really—drying and surprisingly refreshing. No more than a vague trace of boozy warmth.
A biggish and powerful IPA, but surprisingly supple and graceful, impressively drinkable. Intense as hell, lots of complex hoppy stuff but not tons else (fits the style and the intense), comes about as close to "balanced" as just about anything else in the style. Tasty and delicious.
