Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Red Sky at Night
Pale bread, pale fruits bright and right behind: bananas, pears, apples, white grapes. Baking spices lurking, mainly allspice and cloves. Grassy-floral-earthy bitterness emerging gradually as the beer evolves to a long, dry finish. Flickers of pine and maybe citrus around the edges.
Light-bodied, decently carbonated. Mostly clean; cleansing and scrubbing and impressively drying. Refreshing as hell.
A delicious and massively drinkable beer, pretty credible and creditable as a saison. As intense and complex as one might expect, comes together well and balances itself superbly. Clearly a beer that all but begs to be served with food (because saisons are like that). A couple years ago, the brewery couldn't keep up with the demand for this beer, and it's easy to see why. The brewery is about twenty-five minutes away, which makes me *very* happy, in a "Drink local" sort of way.
