Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas (Uncharted Waters) Holy Sheet
Fruity and spicy: Dark fruits like plums, cherries, figs, grapes; hints of bananas. Baking spices like cloves, allspice, cinnamon, ginger. Dark spirits: mainly brandy, some rum and whiskey. Nuts, toffee, caramel, toast. Earth, tobacco, smoke around the edges. Dries out gradually but pretty completely.
On the light side of medium-bodied, decent fine carbonation. Some bready-syrupy stickiness around the edges. Mildly drying, decently refreshing. A little boozy heat, pretty subtle for 9% ABV.
A tasty dubbel, with the brandy barrel character solidly present, adding complexity but not particularly dominant. Impressively drinkable, in a big sipping beer way: intense and complexm integrated and balanced. A nice product of Heavy Seas' barrel-aging program.
