Tonight's beer: Odin Thor's Equinox
Caramel, toast, molasses, bread; healthy smears of dried/candied fruits (a gamut, a cornucopia, pears and apples and peaches and cherries and bananas and probably others). Some baking spices—mainly cloves and allspice—lurking alongside some earthy-grassy bitterness. Dark spirits flicker past, brandy and rum and possibilities of whiskey. Starts kinda sweet, finishes gradually dry with a subtle tart pucker.
On the light side of medium-bodied, fine carbonation a bit sparse but pretty much adequate. mostly clean; drying and refreshing. Just a trace of boozy prickle, and a touch of flint.
A nicely drinkable Belgian strong dark ale. Shockingly complex—some tart/sour lurking, reminds me of the Petrus Dubbel Bruin—and very intense; nicely balanced, integrated. The label says it's brewed with food in mind, and I'd believe it. Pair it with something rich, I think; duck comes to mind.
