Tonight's beer: Oskar Blues Old Chub
Smoke up front, briefly, on a solid base of caramel-toasted bread, tending slightly to bread budding. Dark baking spices—cinnamon, cloves, allspice—tossed in with dried/candied fruits like figs and plums and cherries. Vanilla and molasses lurking in the distance. Earthy-grassy bitterness a counterpoint, if a kinda subdued one. Gradually dries out, just a little.
A bit on the thick and chewy side, decently carbonated. Some stickiness around the finish (more into the aftertaste). Gently drying, surprisingly refreshing (and more than a little filling). A slight boozy prickle, about right for 8% ABV.
A very nice lightly-smoked Wee Heavy; big enough to threated to edge into barleywine/old ale territory. Drinkable enough for such a big malty beer: intense and complex, tipped substantially toward malty and sweet but not so it falls over. I'm always happy to have this beer on hand.
