Tonight's beer: Sierra Nevada Bigfoot (2013)
Bready-toasty caramel sweetness, threaded with dried fruits; pine and citrus and grass and flowers arriving a moment later, en masse. Hints of vanilla and bourbon, along with a surprising flicker of chocolate, linger into a slow and gradual transition to something like dry-ish.
Thick, soft and chewy; mildly carbonated, sticky, kinda dense. A trace of boozy burn, as a reminder this is a big beer. A long-lived finish proves to be softly drying and gently warming,
A big and delicious barleywine that's not at all shy about showing its power. Almost overwhelmingly intense, staggeringly complex; superbly well-integrated and surprisingly balanced (though some of that may be the year and change in the bottle). Impressively drinkable, in a Very Large Beer way. One of a handful of beers I buy every year, for *very* good reason. It's an awesome beer.
