Tonight's beer: Sillwater Artisanal Brontide
Coffee, dark chocolate, black pepper; earthy-peaty-grassy bitterness woven in. Dark bread, toast, caramel, molasses more in the background. Almost-burnt dark dried fruits in the distance, with hints of smoke and baking spices (mainly cloves and allspice). Darkly bitter, then briefly sweet, then astonishingly dry.
Pretty light-bodied, nicely carbonated. Drying, scrubbing, refreshing as hell. A little almost-flinty prickliness around the finish.
A very nice beer, one that doubtless would go shockingly well with food (steak au poivre, anyone?) Almost porterish, but still rocking Stillwater's yeast strain. Impressively intense and staggeringly intense (especially for 5% ABV), precisely balanced and superbly well-integrated. Drinkable as hell. Unsurprisingly, another excellent beer from Stillwater Artisanal.
