Tonight's beer: Flying Dog The Fear
Dark bread and pumpkins, toast and caramel; impressions of dark chocolate and maybe coffee around the edges. Densely-woven threads of baking spices: cloves, cinnamon, allspice, ginger; earthy-grassy bitterness lurks in the distance. Possibilities of peat and smoke. Spice-sweet, then briefly bitter, then gradually dry.
Medium-bodied, maybe a little thicker and denser, nicely carbonated. Drying and surprisingly refreshing; some bready-syrupy stickiness lingers for a while. A trace of boozy warmth, pretty subdued for 9% ABV.
A very tasty beer with which to greet autumn, laden with pumpkin flavor and dark as the approaching winter nights. Intense and complex, nicely integrated and balanced. Astonishingly drinkable, in a supping dessert beer kind of way. An excellent way to wrap up a long weekend.
