Lagunitas Imperial Red

Tonight's beer: Lagunitas Imperial Red

Lagunitas Imperial Red

Lots of bitterness to open: grass and flowers, backed by citrus and pine. Hints of spice flicker past. Caramel and toast and bread lurk in the distance. Dries out quickly and completely.

Medium-bodied, maybe a bit more massive than that; nicely carbonated, maybe a bit abrasive. Some resinous-syrupy stickiness into a longish finish, eventually drying. Tends toward refreshing, eventually.

An utterly delicious beer, a wonderful way to come back to beer after more than three weeks without (antibiotics are wonderful things but they do have their downside ...). Intense as hell, and complex; more like poised than balanced but holds together nicely. Impressively drinkable. A brewery I like and trust making a style I particularly enjoy; I'm happy to wear this particular bull's-eye. Definitely yum.
