Southern Tier 2XRYE

Tonight's beer: Southern Tier 2XRYE

Southern Tier 2XRYE

Starts out quite bitter—grassy and floral on top, with threads of pine and citrus. Bread, toast, caramel solidly in the background, with hints of pepper and maybe some other spices wafting past. After that brief flirtation with sweet-ish, transitions sharply to desert-dry.

Medium-bodied, lightly (but adequately) carbonated. A bit chew, a bit sticky. Cleansing, drying, gradually refreshing. Not much trace of the 8.1% ABV.

A very drinkable beer, delicious and laden with autumnal glow. Intense and complex, nicely balanced. Rye nicely integrated with the rest of the beer. I've been a bit fan of Southern Tier for a long time; as long as they keep brewing beers like this, that won't change.
