Blue Mountain (Barrel House) Über Pils

Tonight's beer: Blue Mountain (Barrel House) Über Pils

Blue Mountain (Barrel House) Über Pils

Grassy-floral bitterness, with piny and citrussy impressions around the edges; pale bread lightly-toasted and brushed with caramel. Possibilities of nuts and toffee in the distance. Sweet and bitter in direct counterpoint, evolving toward a quick dry finish.

A little thick and bready, decently carbonated, distinctly smooth. Mostly clean and cleansing, definitely drying and refreshing.

Very, very nice. I entirely get eh negative reactions to Imperial Pilsners—there does seem to be something amiss with cranking up the Pilsner style, and what was wrong with Maibock/Helles Bock, anyway?—but it's a style I happen to enjoy a lot. This is a good one: intense as heck, reasonably complex (considering the general straightforward nature of Pilsners), wonderfully balanced, gloriously well-integrated. Astonishingly drinkable. Another *very* successful beer from Blue Mountain.
