Tonight's beer: Boulevard (Smokestack Series) Two Jokers

Boulevard (Smokestack Series) Two Jokers

Tart to start—lemony and floral and startlingly lactic—with edging of pine and grass. Earthy-musky spice—the cardamom and grains of paradise listed on the label, as well as some pepper—in the background. Pale bread, flickers of toast and caramel; touches of piny bitterness around the end as the beer dries out steeply.

Medium-bodied, more or less, finely carbonated. Distinctly smooth, some syrupy stickiness hanging on through and past the finish. Drying, very refreshing; no real hint of alcohol.

It's been a while since I've had this—more than three years—and I don't know that I remembered now brightly-spiced and lactic this beer is. Briskly intense, awesomely complex, wickedly drinkable. Balanced and poised, supple and subtle. Boulevard clearly owns me, but this *is* a delicious beer.
