Dogfish Head Punkin

Tonight's beer: Dogfish Head Punkin

Dogfish Head Punkin

Toast, caramel, molasses, lots of pumpkin. Dark baking spices in the background: cinnamon, cloves, ginger; threads of earthy bitterness in the distance. A dim possibility of rum. Sweet from the start, flickers of bitter as the beer struggles to dry out.

Thick, dense, chewy, sticky; decently carbonated. Soft and bready and syrupy. Eventually kinda drying, a bit refreshing.

A darkly beautiful pumpkin beer, richly spiced, obviously suitable for dessert but maybe capable of going with the right main dish (maybe some sort of curry?). Intense and complex, nicely poised and beautifully integrated. The first good pumpkin beer I had, lo these many moons ago, and beer I have a clearly have a soft spot for; delicious, nonetheless.
