Tonight's beer: North Coast Grand Cru

North Coast Grand Cru

Pale fruits—apples and pears, hints of citrus and of funky tropical oddments—on white bread liberally smeared with honey and caramel. Floral-grassy bitterness off in the distance. Threads of tart throughout (though they fade as the beer warms) alongside hints of vanilla. Eventually makes its way in the direction of dry, but never quite makes it.

Medium-bodied, more or less, with decent if kinda sparse carbonation. Sticky around the edges, traces of boozy fire looming on the horizon. Manages a little drying around the finish.

A very nice beer, big as hell but very tasty and drinkable (though it's probably best approached with some caution as a sipping beer ). Shockingly intense and complex, wonderfully balanced among sweet, tart, and bitter—though that balanced position evolves as the beer warms. A delicious beer to spend an evening with.
