Tonight's beer: Ommegang Scythe & Sickle
Earthy-grassy bitterness sits atop caramel-toasty bready sweetness. Flickers in the interstices of herbs—thyme, parsley—and fruits and baking spices, with vague peppery impressions in the distance. Transitions smoothly to impressively dry.
Medium-bodied, maybe a little lighter, nicely carbonated. Mostly clean and cleansing; drying and impressively refreshing.
A very nice biére de garde, with the complex grain bill nicely integrated. Astoundingly complex, remarkably intense for 5.8% ABV; balanced, poised, graceful, supple. Drinkable as hell. Ommegang have brewed an idiosyncratic—but typically delicious—fall seasonal, with nary a pumpkin in sight.
