Oskar Blues Ten Fidy

Tonight's beer: Oskar Blues Ten Fidy

Oskar Blues Ten Fidy

Lots of dark roast: chocolate, some coffee, threads of dark bread and toast. Caramel and vanilla right behind. A lacy veil of ashes and smoke, peat and earth and grass dimly perceptible, with vague flickers of dried/burnt fruits and butter (probably how my palate parses deep caramel; not diacetyl or any other off-flavor) on the periphery. Thickly bittersweet throughout; dries out a little, eventually.

Massively dense, practically a singularity (explains why it's so dark, I guess); sparsely carbonated. Syrupy-sticky and bready-chewy, viscous; surprisingly, leans slightly toward the abrasive, with substantial (but not unpleasant) alcohol warmth and prickle.

Yum! Big enough to sip carefully and contemplatively, but pretty drinkable for all that. Crazily intense and complex, poised more than balanced; a little all over the place and maybe a bit splattery but holds together very well. Delicious from start to finish.
