Tonight's beer: Sierra Nevada Flipside
Starts bitter—citrus and pine, musk and flowers and grass right behind—precisely positioned against toast and caramel and bread. Possibilities of dried fruits and maybe spice in the distance. Wraps up sharply, briskly dry.
Medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Some bready chewiness and stickiness (resinous-syrupy touches to the latter) but eventually drying, refreshing, cleansing.
A very tasty amber/red ale, lots of fresh hoppy flavor but remarkably well-balanced. Intense and complex, very drinkable. Sierra Nevada played a big role in introducing Americans to the pleasures of hoppy beers; it's no surprise this beer is excellent. Yum.
