Tonight's beer: Silver City Imperial Stout
Lots of dark chocolate and caramel, maybe some threads of coffee; toast and dark bread alongside. Vanilla and burnt fruit arising through the middle, with ash and smoke and earthy-grassy bitterness a counterpoint. Grace notes of whiskey and spice. Slowly dries out, a little.
Thick, dense, chewy; a little viscous and sticky. Decently carbonated. Pretty smooth. Maybe a dim flicker of boozy warmth, subtle for 9.2% ABV. More filling and satisfying than refreshing.
A massively tasty Big American Stout, very drinkable in a sipping beer on a dank evening way. Appropriately intense and complex (read: staggeringly so), marvelously well-integrated and surprisingly balanced. Nothing here but an awesome stout: no bourbon-barrels, no chocolate, no craziness. Yet another superb beer from the Pacific Northwest.
