Anchor Big Leaf Maple

Tonight's beer: Anchor Big Leaf Maple

Anchor Big Leaf Maple

A small blast of bitterness to open: flowers and grass, threads of pine and citrus. Bready sweetness a counterpoint, a little toasty, a dollop of caramel. Some syrup in the background, maple and molasses. Bitter then a little sweet then positively arid.

Medium-bodied, well-carbonated. Some bready chewiness and some syrupy stickiness but mostly clean and cleansing, scrubbing and drying and refreshing.

Anchor have brewed quite the tasty Red Ale, here, a nice alternative to all the pumpkin beers around this time of year. Plenty intense and complex, nicely balanced, drinkable as hell. One of the beers I'm happy to see and drink every fall. Yummy, indeed.
