Tonight's beer: Boulevard (Smokestack Series) Dark Truth

Boulevard (Smokestack Series) Dark Truth

Dark fruits—dried, candied, burnt; cherries and plums and raisins and maybe figs—on top of toast and dark bread, heavily drizzled with molasses. Chocolate and coffee, earth and grass a richly bitter counterpoint. Flickers of dark baking spices: cloves, allspice, maybe cinnamon. Starts sweet, slides through thickly bitter to softly dry. Emergent hints of whiskey and rum.

Maybe a little on the light side of medium-bodied, explosigely carbonated. Some syrupy stickiness, maybe some chewiness. Gently but extensively drying. Finishes a bit scrubbing. Roughly zero trace of the 9.7% ABV.

Yup, that's the stuff. One of the best everyday Big Stouts on the planet. Staggeringly intense and astonishingly complex, unified and integrated and impressively balanced. Mind-blowingly drinkable—scarily so. I'm a huge fanboy when it comes to Boulevard, and this beer is a glorious example of why.
