Tonight's beer: DC Brau The Public
Piny-grapefruit bitterness, hints of lime and orange; bread, caramel, maybe toast filling in the interstices. Threats of flowers and grass around the fringes. Starts bitter, wraps up intensely dry.
Medium-bodied, maybe a little lighter; decently carbonated. Scrubbing, almost scouring; briskly drying and impressively refreshing. Maybe a little bready chewiness and resinous stickiness, but mostly clean.
This is a very nice American Pale Ale, from a brewery reasonably close to me—a brewery that now has distribution here. Tasty as hell: intense and complex, nicely balanced and structured and integrated. Impressively drinkable. The folks at DC Brau definitely know what they're doing, here.
