Tonight's beer: Devil's Backbone Pumpkin Hunter
Caramel and pale bread, pumpkins and toast right behind. Baking spices—cinnamon and cloves, maybe some ginger—braided with earthy-grassy bitterness. Starts out pretty sweet, evolves smoothly at least in the direction of dry.
Medium-bodied, with carbonation that's gentle but adequate. Some chewiness and a bit of stickiness, but mostly clean and eventually a little drying; surprisingly refreshing.
A tasty and drinkable pumpkin beer, with a low enough alcohol content that one could session it, if one were so inclined. Plenty intense and complex, given the 5.1% ABV; nicely balanced and integrated. Devil's Backbone have won a surprising number of medals for such a small brewery; I haven't had a bad beer from them, myself.
