Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas (Uncharted Waters Series) The Greater Pumpkin

Heavy Seas (Uncharted Waters Series) The Greater Pumpkin

Lots of pumpkin and caramel, some bread and some toast. Baking spice—cinnamon, cloves, allspice, maybe ginger and nutmeg—a little in the background. Threads of vanilla, possibilities of butter. Hints of earthy-grassy bitterness in the distance. Sweet most of the way from start to finish; dries out a little by the very end.

Medium-bodied, lightly-carbonated. Some syrupy  stickiness hanging around. A little gentle drying, leaning heavily toward refreshing. Given the 10% ABV, alarmingly little alcohol presence; practically none, in fact. Scary smooth.

An astonishingly drinkable very big pumpkin beer (though not as insanely so as what Avery have turned loose into the world) with the bourbon character nicely contained. Stupidly intense and complex, of course, but shockingly well-balanced. Subtle and supple and just a bit evil. Local-to-me brewery does good, big-time. Too bad we just bought the one bottle.
