Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Winter Storm
Nicely toasted bread, some caramel and maybe a touch of molasses. Earthy-grassy bitterness emerges rapidly, with possibilities of peat. Flickers and hints of baking spice, and of dried fruits: mostly plums and figs. Traces of smoke, and of toffee and nuts.
Medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. A bit of stickiness but mostly clean; gradually gently drying. Surprisingly refreshing. Wraps up drying and scrubbing.
A very tasty beer, with plenty of malt depth nicely poised against hoppy-bitter prickle. Intense and complex for days, balanced and poised and supple and integrated. Superbly drinkable. Another excellent beer from the local-to-me brewery I know best, and a beer I'm happy to have shared out.
