Tonight's beer: Odell Myrcenary

Odell Myrcenary

Lots of bitterness explodes across the palate, floral and grassy with pine and citrus (mostly grapefruit, touches of lime and orange) woven in. some pale-bready sweetness in the background, grace notes of caramel. Austerely bitter, then a flicker of sweet, then tilts steeply to dry.

Medium-bodied, lightly carbonated. Some resinous-syrupy stickiness. Imposingly drying, scrubbing to the point of scouring. Basically no hint in the beer of the 9.3% ABV on the label.

A tasty—almost overwhelming—Double IPA, just on the correct side of over-the-top. Blisteringly intense, nicely complex (mainly in the hops character); well-integrated and about as close to balanced as the style gets. More of a Big Sippin' Beer, but a pretty drinkable one. Another very impressive beer from Odell.
