Tonight's beer: 21st Amendment Fireside Chat
Lots of roasty notes to start—espresso and chocolate—with nuts and dark bread and toast in the substructure. Dark and woody baking spices flicker by: nutmeg and cinnamon and cloves. Earthy-grassy bitterness starts in the middle, continues into the long finish; dries out thoroughly and pretty quickly.
Medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. A little bready chewiness and some syrupy stickiness; a long and drying, gently-warming finish; surprisingly refreshing.
This is a very nice Winter Warmer, laden with (but not dominated by) a healthy dollop of spice. Intense and complex as hell, pretty well-balanced and superbly integrated. Impressively drinkable. I'm happy to see a brewer (other than Anchor) brew a different Winter Warmer/Christmas beer, every year. This has been very nice the three (I think) times I've had it.
