Tonight's beer: Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout (2013)
Lots of dark chocolate to open (just as it says on the label), with sparks of espresso and coffee; toast, caramel, possibilities of toffee and molasses and maple syrup. Vanilla and burnt fruits dance around the edges; occasional threads of earth, smoke, peat, grass. On the thickly sweet side of bittersweet from the start; gradually dries out some, eventually.
Very thick, adequately carbonated. Chewy and sticky, gently drying. Subtly warming, no other trace of the 10% ABV. Coats the palate almost like paint. Distinctly soft and almost-smooth.
This was one of the first beers I started cellaring and aging; it does pretty well, at least for the couple years I can manage. Intense and complex, holds together nicely with poise and grace and balance. Smooth and supple; definitely a sipping beer but a very drinkable one. A beautiful beer to have on a dank winterish evening.
