Tonight's beer: Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA
Pine and citrus (grapefruit, a little lime) to start, a resinous tsunami; flowers and grass and traces of musky tropical fruits woven in. Bready sweetness emerges—partially, gradually, eventually—through the middle; then, the beer turns hard to the dry side.
Medium-bodied; a little thick for the style, maybe. Adequately carbonated. Some resinous-syrupy stickiness lingers into the finish and beyond, but the beer finally winds up kinda clean; gently drying and surprisingly refreshing. Roughly zero alcohol presence.
A tasty Double IPA, one of the classics of the style. Massive; massively intense and complex—even for a big beer. Impressively well-integrated and startlingly well-balanced. Almost scarily drinkable. Dogfish Head—and specifically this beer—is easily enough for me to find that I kinda take it for granted. I should probably stop that.
