Tonight's beer: Flying Dog The Fear
Lots of spice (cloves, cinnamon, ginger) and some deeply-browned pumpkin, nearly-burnt dark bread a little in the background. Molasses and toast and caramel emerge around the middle. Slides a little in the direction of dry around the finish, braced against grassy bitterness and hints of earth and peat.
A little thick and distinctly bready-chewy, sticky into the finish. Coating and drying, eventually kinda refreshing. Not much hint of the 9% ABV—just a slight prickle.
A very tasty pumpkin beer, kinda idiosyncratic: not a stout, but not the typical pumpkin pie beer, either; dark-bready-toasty and very nice. Intense and complex, not so sweet as to be relegated to dessert, but big enough to play there. Impressively drinkable.
