Lost Abbey Devotion

Tonight's beer: Lost Abbey Devotion

Lost Abbey Devotion

Pale bread, maybe a touch of caramel; pale dried/candied fruits (pears, apples) specked with spice (cloves, mostly) and pepper. Earthy-grassy bitterness emerges through the middle, with grace notes of of flowers. Wraps up bracingly dry. Dim possibilities of Bretty earthy funk.

Light-bodied and highly-carbonated. Cleansing and refreshing, scrubbing and drying. Maybe a little bready chewiness, but mostly clean.

A very drinkable beer, one that didn't suffer for being in the bottle for almost two years. Oops. Also a beer that would go well with lots of different foods. Even after the extra time in the bottle, the beer is nicely balanced and about as intense as one could want from a relatively mild (6.25% ABV) Belgian Pale Ale. Complex, but very well-integrated and highly drinkable. I tend to buy Nd drink Lost Abbey's beers every chance I get; this beer isn't going to make me change that—and may encourage such behavior in the future.
