Tonight's beer: Southern Tier 2XMAS
Nuts and toffee, some dried/candied fruits (mostly figs and plums and dates); floral-grassy-spice-earthy bitterness arises right behind. Bready-caramel-toasty sweetness through the middle, with hints of molasses or treacle. Wraps up sharply dry.
Medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. A little bready chewiness, a trace of syrupy stickiness, but mostly clean. Very drying and surprisingly refreshing. At 8% ABV, a pretty big beer, but really no alcohol heat.
A tasty Xmas beer, festive and drinkable, delicious from start to finish. Intense and complex as hell, lots of (for lack of a better way to describe it) extra stuff tossed in, but all integrated and contained and something like a balanced spice-bomb. Supple and subtle and graceful. Definitely a superb beer, this time of year.
