Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Winter Storm
Earthy-grassy bitterness balanced against caramel-toasty-bready sweetness. Dim flickers of dried fruit, baking spice, peat, smoke. Possibilities of pine and flowers. Bittersweet to start, evolves smoothly to dry but remains quite bitter.
Medium-bodied, well-carbonated. Gently drying, refreshing, powerfully drinkable. A little soft and chewy, mostly clean.
A delicious beer, pretty convincing as an ESB—if big and brawny in a typically American way. Appropriately well-balanced and subtle; complex (if quiet) and nicely intense. Drinkable as hell, superbly well-integrated. A wonderful beer to be drinking, while it's as wintry as it gets around here—not actively stormy, thank the gawds.
