Beer and food!
Dinner tonight was beef pot roast, crusted with coffee grounds and spices and coffee-braised, with sauteed corn with cilantro and Spanish chorizo. The Sierra Nevada Celebration had enough bitterness to cut through the very rich pot roast and enough caramel to play at something like balance. There are overtones in the hops that bounce off the cilantro in the corn (and what little bit of herb character from the rub survived in the pot roast). There was jalapeño in both dishes, which played fun counterpoint games with the hops.
A while ago, I might have been reluctant to pair an IPA with a pot roast, and this was something of an experiment, but it turned out quite nicely.
