Southern Tier 2XMAS

Tonight's beer: Southern Tier 2XMAS

Southern Tier 2XMAS

Caramel-toasty-bready sweetness, backed by woody baking spices—in no particular order: nutmeg, juniper, cloves, ginger, cardamom; maybe cinnamon and allspice. Flickers of dried fruits, some earthy-grassy bitterness around the edges, hints of brandy and/or rum. Eventually dries out nicely, even after a very sweet start.

Kinda thick and bready, decently carbonated. A bit soft and chewy, kinda smooth. Gently drying, eventually cleansing (if not clean, really) and refreshing. No real alcohol presence.

Yum! A big and very tasty winter warmer, explicitly modeled (I think) on Swedish glogg. Lots of flavor, intense and complex and balanced; nicely integrated. Though it's a pretty big beer, it's a drinkable one. I remain deeply fond of Southern Tier's beers; in other news, we're apparently going to be drinking winter/Christmas beers until July.
