Tonight's beer: Tröegs Mad Elf
Cherries—more sweet than tart, but a mixture—backed by honey and lightly-toasted bread. Flickers of spice; earthy-grassy bitterness, especially around the end. Impressions of rum in the distance. Kinda sweet from start to finish.
Somewhere in the vicinity of medium-bodied: kinda thin, kinda sticky; nicely carbonated. Eventually, softly drying and surprisingly refreshing, with no alcohol presence at all.
A sneaky and subtle beer, practically devious, with no warning of the 11% ABV. Sweet and fruity, mostly, though there's more to it than that (though it's subtle and you need to be able to get past all those mostly-sweet cherries); absolutely and deliriously unbalanced, but completely integrated, deceptively smooth, and devilishly drinkable. Not to everyone's taste—some say it tastes like cough syrup—but I love it.
