Tonight's beer: Boulevard (Smokestack Series) Harvest Dance
Starts with a healthy dollop of bitterness: citrus and tropical fruits, flowers and musk, flickers of grass and pine. Pale bread, with a shade of toast; some baking spice, traces of dried pale fruits (bananas, pears, apples, raisins) and toffee and nuts. As the beer eases gradually in the direction of dry, wisps of vanilla and other woody notes emerge.
On the light side of medium-bodied, finely carbonated, impressively smooth. Softly drying, eventually refreshing; some boozy warmth in the belly, but not particularly hot or prickly. A trace of stickiness, otherwise quite clean.
A delicious beer though I don't know that I've noticed as much tropical funk in the past (though the memento bottle we have from like five years ago mentions Citra hops, so they've always been there) but this may be the freshest I've had this beer; it's nice, and a nice change. Intense and complex as hell, wonderfully balanced and integrated and deliriously drinkable. Graceful and supple and tending toward the deceptive as far as the alcohol content. Anyone who doesn't know I'm a Boulevard fanboi hasn't been paying attention, but I stand by my feeling that this is an excellent beer.
