Sixpoint Hi-Res

Tonight's beer: Sixpoint Hi-Res

Sixpoint Hi-Res

Pine explodes onto and over the palate, with citrussy-floral aftershocks and grassy blast-shadows. Pale bread emerges, a dim counterpoint with grace notes of caramel, through the middle; bitterness returns (though it really never leaves) and lingers with a death-grip into a  nigh-eternal arid finish and aftertaste.

A little thicker than medium-bodied, nicely carbonated; bready-chewy and distinctly soft around the middle. Practically immortal resinous-syrupy stickiness, drying and scrubbing (almost scouring) but nowhere near refreshing. Absolutely no hint of the 10.5% ABV.

Egad. I'd heard this beer described as hop candy, and that's about right, really. Crazy intense and complex, wonderfully well-integrated and surprisingly close to balanced (given the style). Amazingly drinkable—kinda scary, given the substantial booze payload. Delicious, from start to finish. Sixpoint have some serious clues going on, definitely. I have to highly recommend this beer (though I feel a case of of the fanbois coming on).
