Southern Tier Old Man, Strip Steak, Roasted Broccoli

Beer and food!

Southern Tier Old Man, Strip Steak, Roasted Broccoli

The beer is Southern Tier's Old Man. The food is strip steak with a vaguely Italian-ish pan sauce, with a side dish probably described as oven-blackened broccoli with pine nuts and mustardy vinaigrette. The beer played rather nicely with the vinous pan sauce (since the pan sauce has a good bit of sherry in it, vinous is an expected characteristic), and the pretty assertive hopping for an old ale bounced well off the little bit of peppery heat from the spice rub I used. The roasty and toasty threads in the beer played well with the very caramelized broccoli and the slightly less browned steak. Pretty tasty, all in all; I thought for a while about what beer was going to work with this, and Old Man turned out to be a solid choice.
