Tonight's beer: The Lost Abbey 10 Commandments

The Lost Abbey 10 Commandments

Lots of dark bread, toast, caramel; dark dried fruits alongside—raisins, prunes, figs, dates, cherries. Earthy-grassy bitterness emerges into the finish, as the beer shifts subtly and smoothly in the direction of dry. Bright hints of honey and a surprising piny flicker mostly in the aftertaste.

Just on the light side of medium-bodied, decently carbonated. Maybe a trace of bready chewiness and stickiness, but mostly clean. Gently drying, surprisingly refreshing for such a big beer; alarmingly little (practically no) alcohol presence for 12% ABV. Prickly-vinous into the finish.

Yum! I have a recollection of liking this beer lots, before, and I'm glad I bought a bottle, again. Intense and complex as hell, wonderfully well-balanced and -integrated. Subtle and graceful and deceptive and supple and alarmingly drinkable. Convincingly Belgian, typically excellent for The Lost Abbey (in my experience, anyway).
