Tonight's beer: Tröegs Nugget Nectar
Starts out hella bitter—pine, flowers, a ton of citrus (lime and orange, some grapefruit and lemons); but almost instantly that is relieved, or countered, or balanced by ample sweetness: caramel, bread, dried/candied pale fruit, hints of toast. Evolves smoothly toward impressively dry.
Medium-bodied, or a bit lighter than that, nicely carbonated. Scrubbing, drying, cleansing, refreshing. Maybe some hints of bready chewiness through the middle, resinous-syrupy stickiness around the finish.
*This* is the stuff. Balanced in a way that is ... practically unique among American hops-focused beers; the beer is staggeringly intense and complex, and incredibly well-integrated. A beer that is drinkable to the point of guzzling it. One of the beers that's a touchpoint of my personal beer year, every year.
